2017 Jeep Cherokee vs. 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander

2017 Jeep Cherokee vs. 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander

There are few vehicles as iconic as the Jeep Cherokee is. For years, competitors have been trying to beat Jeep at a game they helped invent, and as you might expect, it hasn't always gone well. At North York Chrysler, we don't believe that the 2017 Jeep Cherokee really has any true competitors, but that doesn't mean you should do your due diligence when shopping for a new car, truck, or SUV. With this in mind, the sales and service experts at North York Chrysler thought it might be helpful to put our popular 2017 Jeep Cherokee up against the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander. We'll go over some of the more salient features of both, and in the end, you can decide which one is right for your specific need!

2017 Jeep Cherokee

There is no reason to buy an SUV that isn't versatile. Thankfully, the 2017 Jeep Cherokee is a dynamic crossover that has something for everyone. The 2017 Jeep Cherokee available at North York Chrysler is available in eight trims, forward and four-wheel drive, and nine exciting exterior colors. Under its hood, you'll find a choice of two exciting engines. Most trims come standard with a 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir I-4 engine with 184 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 171 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,600 rpm. To take it up a notch, and available 3.2-liter Pentastar VVT V6 Stop/Start technology offers an impressive 271 horsepower and 239 lb.-ft. of torque. When paired with the segment-first nine-speed automatic transmission drivers will enjoy fuel economy as good as 7.8 L/100 km highway and 11.0 L/100 km city.*
From the roughest off-road trails to smooth paved streets, you'll enjoy an amazing ride in the 2017 Jeep Cherokee thanks to a strong lightweight suspension tuned to achieve excellent handling with maximum comfort, Selec-Terrain Traction Management System, and three available rugged 4x4 systems. Because it is quite powerful, this rough and tumble SUV offers a Best-in-Class towing capacity of up to 2,041 kg (4,500 lb).
If all of this wasn't enough, the 2017 Jeep Cherokee is also extremely safe, comfortable, and connected all for a competitive price. Depending on the trim level you can look forward to features such as:
  • Ten standard airbags
  • Electronic Stability Control and Hill Start Assist
  • Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking
  • Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path Detection
  • Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist
  • Uconnect 8.4 multimedia center with a largest-in-class touchscreen and Drag and Drop menu bar
  • Siri Eyes Free for the iPhone 4S and later.

2017 Mitsubishi Outlander

While the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander does have its strong points, overall it falls short of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee in a number of categories. It is only available in four trim levels and seven exterior colors and the two engine choices are disappointing including the 2.4-liter MIVEC DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine that produces 166 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 162 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm.
The 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander does include Hill Start Assist, anti-lock braking with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, however, it only comes standard with a seven-airbag system and a hands-free Link System with the 6.1-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth technology, and steering wheel controls.

Overall

After even such a quick look at both vehicles, it is clear that the 2017 Jeep Cherokee is superior in a number of ways including:
  • More trim levels and colors
  • More powerful standard engine
  • More airbags
  • Larger touchscreen
While listing features is great and all, the only way to truly experience the dominance of the 2017 Jeep Cherokee is to get behind the wheel of one. To schedule a test-drive, please contact the sales team at North York Chrysler today.
