Shoppers looking at the 2016 Ram 1500 will discover they have more to choose from this year. There are more buzz models, from the Sport trim to fit buyers' personal wants and needs. The new off-road Ram 1500 Rebel and the top-of-the-line Laramie Limited aim to fit specific lifestyles. Finally, the entire 1500 line gets a new centre console design. Luxury Brown Pearl, Pearl White and Red Pearl have also been added to the exterior colour pallet, bringing the number up to 12.
The four buzz models are built off the mid-level 1500 Sport. They come in a Crew Cab body style and a 4x4 layout. Powertrain is a 5.7-litre V-8 paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. 20-inch wheels, a vented sport hood, black badging and dual exhaust pipes are standard. Buyers have a choice of either Ceramic Blue or Ignition Orange for their Rebel's exteri or colour.
The Rebel brings the 1500's off-road roots front and centre. Ask any RAM dealer near Toronto this is especially true with the unique blacked-out front grille. The interior is also distinctive with its Radar Red vinyl seats with Sedoso fabric inserts. Dual-zone climate control and a premium audio system with ten speakers come standard.
The Laramie Limited also comes with its own front grille design. Other features like all-black leather seats, real wood inserts and exclusive badging elevate their truck into the luxury vehicle stratosphere.
These updates enhance an already excellent pickup.
The 2016 Ram 1500 comes in ST, SXT, SLT, Outdoorsman, Big Horn, Sport, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn and Laramie Limited trim levels. Many are equipped with a 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 good for 305 horsepower, 269 lb.-ft. of torque, and a fuel economy of 12.9 L/100 km city and 9.3 L/100 km highway. Note, this engine can use E85 for greater fuel flexibility.
Shoppers prioritizing power from their pickup turn to the available 5.7-litre V-8 as the engine of choice. Part of Ram's famed HEMI line, this powerplant is rated at 395 horsepower, 410 lb.-ft. of torque and 15.8 L/100km in city driving and 10.9 L/100 km on the highway.
The EcoDiesel available for the 1500 is one of the most advance in the segment. The turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 diesel churns out 240 horsepower and a mind-boggling 420 lb.-ft. of torque, which is more than the V-8. In addition, it gets the best fuel economy of the three engines at 8.0 L/100km.
All the engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. The V-8 can also be paired to a six-speed automatic.
